Theatrical backdrop for 2002 party success

INDUSTRY support has given WOMAC a massive boost this year with more than £40,000 already raised for its chosen charities.

Once again the St Valentine’s Day Party was the centrepiece for fundraising efforts.
Hundreds of guests descended on Shakespeare’s UnderGlobe, a spectacular venue beneath London’s Globe Theatre for a packed evening of fundraising, entertainment, good food and excellent company.

This year Rory Bremner provided plenty of entertainment with a hilarious impromptu performance of some of his best-loved characters and he had guests in stitches.

“It’s great to have someone like Rory Bremner supporting WOMAC,’’ said WOMAC patron Jean Kelly. “We were delighted that he agreed to be with us and the performance was a real bonus.’’
He was also on hand to present cheques to this year’s three chosen charities: The Royal College of Surgeons, Kingston CAN (The Kingston Hospital Cancer Unit Appeal) and the Youth Cancer Trust.
In addition to the entertainment the tombola stall proved extremely popular once again and massive amount of prizes donated by the industry was greatly appreciated.

The raffle was also a huge success, with some very happy prize winners who walked away with anything from concert tickets to part of a grand prix car and a mountain bike.
The magnificent venue also proved a big hit with visitors who were able to have a look around the theatre.

Chairman Liz Turner paid tribute to everyone involved in making the night a success.
“The donations from the motoring industry have been phenomenal this year and we are indebted to everyone who has supported the event,’’ she said.

“Without this kind of support we can’t help the wide range of cancer charities we support each year.’’
But the fundraising doesn’t end with the party.
“We are keen to raise money throughout the year,’’said Liz.
“So many friends have already taken every opportunity to raise a little money on launches, industry events or in their offices to help WOMAC. We have people planning a wide range of events to help WOMAC and are always keen to support new ideas.’’
