Throughout 2004, WOMAC raised
funds to replace ageing IT equipment for St Luke’s in Nethermayne near
Basildon, Essex. This will enable the hospice to raise more money and give
the best possible service to its patients and their carers.
The annual running costs of the hospice are approximately £1,166,000,
with only £340,158 coming from Health Authority grants. The rest
must be raised from fundraising and donations.
An up-to-date IT system is essential to track funds, keep in contact with
donors and find new sources of income using e-mail and the web.
WOMAC raised £12,000, which covered the costs to replace this IT
equipment.
St Lukes are able to replace all of its computer hardware, currently running
a 12-year-old DOS system, with a common operating system capable of running
Windows-based donor software. This allows for more flexibility and wider,
more effective use, thereby enabling the hospice to increase its income.
St Luke’s Hospice, is registered charity number 289466, and it serves
a population of 289,000 people in Essex. See page on St Luke’s on
www.tba.org.uk for more details and pictures.
