WOMAC in Alaska 24-07-03

There are very few places in the world that have not been explored, conquered and tamed but there are still adventures to be had.

Sarah Turner is a MIPAA member, who handles the day-to-day marketing of the Pinzgauer military vehicle range. Unfortunately for Pinzgauer - but on this occasion to the advantage of WOMAC - Sarah can’t sit still for too long before the urge to drive across a bit of wilderness takes over.

This time Sarah is shipping her aging but faithful Toyota Land Cruiser out to travel through some of the toughest roads in USA and Canada. Sarah drove the same vehicle across the Canadian wilderness in 1998 this time the trip will start in Anchorage, Alaska travelling the Alaskan Highway to the Canadian Border and then following the Rockies from Summit Lake, North West Territories, Canada to Arizona before turning East to Galveston Texas. The route will use as many trails and unsurfaced roads as possible.

So Sarah is looking for sponsors to cover her costs for the trip and to give donations to WOMAC.

Starting from Anchorage in November the trip will also encompass three seasons, meeting winter and snow in Alaska, crossing Canada in late fall and still hitting the desert heat of Arizona this will be a true test of the all round abilities of vehicle and driver alike.

This is a solo drive, no support and no back up. Last time Sarah didn’t even have any communications, this time, with the support of Toshiba, there will be an email link. Sarah has been driving off-road for 12 years and instructs on a freelance basis.

She says: ‘I’m no mechanic, my spare wheel weighs more than I do but I can do the basics. I’ve spent the last seven years with this Land Cruiser, it is reliable, and has been thoroughly prepared to tackle most things, it may have done 130,000 miles but I am sure that it will see me safely through’

All support is welcomed, coverage through media, internal news PR etc will help boost awareness. While the vehicle is well equipped there is always room for new kit to promote. Above all financial support pledged to WOMAC or to offset the cost of the trip.

Estimated costs are:

Shipping £1,400

Shipping Insurance £700

USA Insurance £700

Fuel £1,000

Personal Expenses £500

Flights £800

Vehicle hire in UK £300 (while vehicle in transit)

Not included in the above:

All supporters of the trip will:

Receive advertising space on the vehicle. (A sole sponsor may ‘wrap’ the vehicle in corporate livery for full support of the trip).

Receive the opportunity to use the vehicle for their own promotional ventures, events etc.

All advertising remains on the vehicle for a minimum of 1 year giving full exposure both in the US and UK
